As a technology-neutral solution provider, Moog has expertise in hybrid solutions that combine the best of hydraulic and electric technologies. One example of a unique solution for high tonnage injection molding machines requiring high speed and/or high forces is the PowerShot™ Injection System.
What is the PowerShot™ Injection System?
The PowerShot Injection System is a unique, sealed unit that eliminates the need for an external power unit, while providing superior closed-loop injection control. It provides the best of both hydraulic and electric technologies by offering the high power, high speed, and accuracy commonly found with hydraulic technology, as well as the low energy consumption, clean environment, low maintenance costs, and modular flexibility of electric technology.
The PowerShot™ is a sealed, closed-loop hydraulic actuator, which has rotational and linear motion. It combines electrical and hydraulic technology in an energy efficient assembly. Injection velocity and pressure are accumulator-driven and controlled by a Moog Servo-Proportional Valve. The RKP Radial Piston Pump modulates oil flow to control backpressure during recovery and returns it to the accumulator for the next cycle. Consequently, precision control is provided for the three major machine functions: injection velocity and pressure control, recovery, and suckback.
The PowerShot System uses the MSC (Moog Servo Controller) System to interface with the customer’s controller through a fieldbus. This compact package is installed with just a few connections to the customer’s machine, offering plug and play convenience.
The PowerShot™ integrated solution uses Moog-designed and built electric and hydraulic components such as Servo-Proportional Valves , servomotors , servocartridge valves , control systems , integrated hydraulic manifold systems and the RKP radial piston pump
