Moog Acquires FCS Control Systems To Expand Its Capabilities in the Simulation and Test Systems Marketplace

East Aurora, NY, USA — FCS Control Systems B.V., located in Amsterdam, Netherlands, has been acquired 100% by Moog Inc. FCS is a designer and manufacturer of high-fidelity electro-mechanical and electro-hydraulic flight and vehicle simulation equipment, and structural test systems that are supplied to the aerospace and automotive markets. Moog Inc. is a worldwide designer, manufacturer, and integrator of precision control components and systems. Moog’s high-performance systems control military and commercial aircraft, satellites and space vehicles, launch vehicles, missiles, automated industrial machinery, and medical equipment applications.

According to Marty Berardi, Vice President, Moog Inc., “This acquisition expands on Moog’s capabilities to provide complete system solutions for the simulation and test systems industry. The acquisition will also offer such significant benefits as an exchange of technology, expansion of product scope and a great depth of experience, which clearly adds value for our global customers.” Aart Jan Hemmink, Managing Director of FCS, added, “At the same time, FCS Control Systems customers will be able to count on the same familiar crew. All of us here are excited about this move forward with FCS Control Systems being part of Moog.”

FCS had annual sales of $24 million in 2004 and currently employs approximately 100 people. FCS traces its origins to 27 years ago when a small group of engineers working for Fokker Aircraft developed a technology for Control Loading Systems used in flight training simulators. These systems allowed trainees to move a control stick and pedals and to have the same feel as if they were actually flying an airplane. In 1999, the FCS engineers took their part of the company private in a management buy out.

About half of FCS’s current sales are generated from flight simulation and driver training markets, primarily in Europe and the U.S. The majority of the other half of their sales is generated by test equipment designed for the aerospace industry, primarily in Europe. These two product lines are expected to directly complement Moog’s simulation and test products which had combined revenues in 2004 of $26 million and which were sold mostly into North American markets.

FCS Control Systems will continue as a center of excellence in Control Loading Systems, Motion Systems, Aerospace and Automotive Test systems, Robotics and similar mechatronic systems. With 24 locations worldwide and over $1 billion in annual revenues, Moog’s global scope will provide FCS Control Systems with a wider network of local support and logistics for system integrators in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. The acquisition is now operating as part of Moog’s Industrial business.

Moog’s Industrial business designs and manufactures high performance motion control solutions combining electric, hydraulic, and hybrid technologies with expert consultative support in a range of applications including plastics, metal forming, textiles, power generation, and simulation. We help performance-driven companies design and develop their next-generation machines. For more information visit http://www.moog.com/industrial  and http://www.fcs-cs.com.
