Our People: Americas
Robbie Queen
Sales Manager
Murphy, NC, USA
I have been fortunate enough to have been with the company for 25 years now. When I first came to the Murphy, NC Operation in 1982 we were known as Clifton Precision and were owned by Litton Industries, eventually becoming a part of Litton PolyScientific. Clifton Precision was a close knit operation where your co-workers were like family. It was a company that prided itself not only on producing a quality product but also a company that genuinely cared about its employees. Our culture was one of honesty and mutual trust. It was a place where one really felt the company cared about its employees.
Fast forward to 2001. The announcement came that Litton had been purchased by Northrop Grumman and became known as Northrop Grumman Components Group. This was a time of uncertainly for my company. We were excited to be a part of such a large and well-know entity but as with all acquisitions and mergers, we really didn’t know where we fit into the larger picture. We were a part of Northrop Grumman for a couple of years when the rumors started circulating within the organization that Northrop was looking to divest the Components Group. This was when our collective stomachs started to really churn. Who would buy us? If we weren’t purchased would we be closed down? Would we be purchased by some corporate raider who would “slash and burn?” I still remember sitting around the conference room table in 2003 when the announcement was made that we were purchased by Moog, uncertain as to what our fate would be, hopeful that our new owners weren’t corporate raiders intent on leaving devastation in their wake. As it turns out my fears were unfounded.
I couldn’t imagine a better cultural alignment than that of the Components Group and Moog. Moog is an ethical, principled, and highly respected company. It is unique in that while Moog is a large corporation it still has that “small company” feel. When we were a part of Litton and Northrop Grumman corporate executives never visited our facility. I’m not sure that most people even knew who our CEO was. It’s refreshing to have our CEO make regular visits and even more refreshing that he is approachable and prefers to be addressed by his first name! Moog has that “family feel” that we so enjoyed when we were Clifton Precision. All of the Moog people that I have and continue to work with are professional yet still down to earth.
In the era of the Enrons, WorldComs, and other unscrupulous corporations who swindle their shareholders and recklessly squander its employees’ pension funds; it is indeed a privilege to work for a successful, well-respected, and above-board organization. As a Sales Manager I’m constantly in front of new and existing customers and when I extol the merits of working with an organization like Moog, I can do it with total honesty and confidence.
