At this point the probe’s trajectory was solely being controlled through its own internal propulsion system. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B), recently passed a technical review by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to permit airborne use of its ILC2000 real-time cargo monitoring and tracking device. The technical review was based on Part-CAT AMC-GM-Issue 2 - Amendment 1 (Annex to ED decision 2014/029/R) detailing the requirements for Cargo Tracking Devices under AMC1 to CAT.GEN.MPA.140 Portable Electronic Devices. Moog Crossbow holds a similar endorsement from the FAA.

The Apollo 11 launch occurred on July 16, 1969 and four days later the Lunar Module Eagle landed on the surface of the Moon. Shortly before 11pm EDT, Commander Neil Armstrong stepped onto the Lunar surface becoming the first human to set foot on another celestial body. Over 600 million people around the world watched a television broadcast of the event and heard Armstrong say “That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.” Eleven other people would eventually set foot on the Moon, including Armstrong’s Lunar Module Pilot Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, who described the view of the Moon as “magnificent desolation.”

Wuxi XinDeBao has recently completed a successful flex coupling durability test program with a new simulation table specifically designed by Moog to handle smaller payloads of up to 100 kg. The Hydraulic Simulation Table 100 kg, (H-ST-100), is a new addition to Moog Simulation Table solutions, designed to meet XinDeBao’s specifications for the testing of automobile exhaust pipes. It is also capable of performing durability evaluations of other small vehicle components. The Moog Simulation Table is available in electric or hydraulic versions depending on the performance required.

Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B) Space and Defense Group is celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) but the story of Hubble begins nearly 50 years ago. Hubble launched in the payload bay of the Space Shuttle Discovery on April 24, 1990 (STS-31) but was conceived of over two decades previous before man had even landed on the Moon and the Space Shuttle even existed. The Large Space Telescope (LST), as it was called initially, was originally slated for launch in 1979 but funding was cut in 1974. Astronomers lobbied for this telescope that would help unlock the mysteries of the universe. In 1978 NASA resumed funding LST with conjunction of the European Space Agency (ESA) making this a truly international effort. The new launch date was planned for 1983 but later slipped to fall of 1986. The Challenger accident in January 1986 stopped Space Shuttle launches leaving the now named Hubble Space Telescope without a launch vehicle. Finally after two years of investigation the Space Shuttles were cleared to resume flight and Hubble got its launch date 11 years after the initially scheduled date. Hubble is the only space telescope designed to be serviced by astronauts and on five different occasions repairs were performed on-orbit. These repairs and upgrades are expected to extend the life of Hubble until 2020 if not longer.

Liquid-fueled rockets, either alone or in conjunction with solid propellant rockets, have been used to propel every spacecraft into orbit since Sputnik in 1957 including mankind beginning in 1961. Moog has provided the hardware and engineering expertise to support launches since then. Moog’s Space and Defense Group supports on average two launches every month occurring across three different continents. Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B) Space and Defense Group provided propulsion control to four NASA Magnetospheric Multiscale mission (MMS) satellites that launched this evening from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. The spacecraft will study how magnetic fields around Earth connect and disconnect, explosively releasing energy via a process known as magnetic reconnection. Findings will enable new understanding of a universal process that is a major driver of space weather events that can affect modern technological systems such as communication networks, GPS navigation, and electrical power grids. All four satellites were carried into space on a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket.

The Electric Propulsion (EP) System was built by MHI and NEC Corporation (NEC), and the spacecraft was built by NEC in Japan. The Hayabusa-2 mission is JAXA’s follow-on to Hayabusa to perform a robotic sample return from an asteroid and bring it back to Earth. The Hayabusa mission launched in 2003 and returned to Earth in 2010 with a sample from a small asteroid near Earth named “25143 Itokawa”.

The U.S. Navy recently procured the Block IV boats through a multiyear contract approved by Congress in 2013 and awarded by the Navy on April 28, 2014.

The product developments include fitting and integrating the 40 mm Cased Telescoped Gun in a new modernized turret. Moog Industrial Group recently supported Guodian United Power Technology Co., Ltd., a member of China Guodian Corporation, to complete the first Low Voltage Ride Through (LVRT) Testing for a wind turbine in China. The tested wind turbine is located in Guodian Shuanglong Wind Farm in Jilin Province of North China. All 33 wind turbines in this farm are equipped with Moog Wind Turbine Pitch Systems that meet LVRT requirements and have been operating stably for six months.

(SSC), announced the successful June 15th launch of the Prisma mission on a Dnepr rocket from Yazny, Russia. The pair of Prisma satellites, named Mango and Tango, were separated on August 12 and are flying individually. The GPS on each satellite is functioning normally, and the two satellites performed a formation flying demonstration. Tango experienced its final calibration and is now fully commissioned in preparation for the remainder of the mission. The satellites demonstrate an innovative 3-propellant system: hydrazine, High Performance Green Propellant (HPGP), and micro cold gas. The Prisma mission serves as the trial flight of HPGP and as a demonstration of formation flying and micropropulsion. Moog is proud to be ECAPS’ partner in providing critical hardware and integration support of the Prisma propulsion systems.

Moog Industrial Group has won a contract to supply Hamburg, Germany-based REpower Systems AG with electric blade pitch control systems for the RWE Innogy Nordsee Ost 1 wind farm, one of the largest offshore projects in the world. Beginning delivery in 2011, REpower will supply 48 wind turbines, each with Moog pitch control systems, to RWE Innogy GmbH to construct Nordsee Ost. Nordsee Ost (North Sea East) is the first project under a framework agreement concluded between REpower and RWE Innogy in February 2009 for the delivery of up to 250 offshore 5 megawatt and 6 megawatt turbines. The wind farm will be approximately 40 km (25 mi) offshore from the German island of Juist.

Determining where you are in the world, in most cases, is simply a matter of tapping a map on your mobile device. That convenience comes courtesy of the U.S. Department of Defense Global Positioning System (GPS), a network of 24 satellites orbiting about 20,200 kilometers above Earth.
While GPS receivers have become ubiquitous on mobile phones as well as satellites occupying Low Earth Orbit (LEO), GPS receivers remain novelties for geostationary orbit (35,700 kilometers above the Earth) as GEO satellites must track weak GPS signals. The signal is weak, in part, because the GPS beams its signal toward Earth. In some cases, satellites orbiting above the GPS constellation will rely on more expensive technologies for tracking their position via Earth-based systems. However, that scenario is changing.

After Hayabusa lifted off on May 9, 2003, it spent two years making its way to Itokawa. During its proximity operations with the asteroid, the satellite lost the function of two of its three reaction wheels, which rotate the satellite around its center of mass. After lifting off from the asteroid surface a chemical fuel leak disabled the reaction control system thrusters. Eventually, a set of commands from Earth enabled Hayabusa to engage its ion thrusters and control the attitude of the spacecraft, aided by the gimballing mechanism.
