New Moog Valve Controls Latest Swedish Comm Satellite
17 November 2007On November 17, Swedish firm SES SIRIUS AB's Sirius 4 satellite, controlled in part by Moog's new Common Platform Thruster Valve (CPTV), roared into orbit aboard an International Launch Services Proton rocket. Departing from the Cosmodrome in Baikonur, Russia, the Sirius 4 will beam direct-to-home broadcast and interactive services across Scandinavia, Europe and Africa.

The launch begins the first flight of the CPTV. Twelve of these valves will control the flow of propellant to the satellite’s 0.2-lbf. rocket engines. Other Moog hardware aboard the Sirius 4:
- (2) 100-lbf. Bi-propellant Apogee Engine Solenoid Valves
- (4) Arcjet Monopropellant Solenoid Thruster Valves
- (6) 5-lbf. Monopropellant Solenoid Thruster Valves
- (1) Helium Pressurant Manifold, which includes three Monopropellant Latch Valves and a Torque Motor Latch Valve
- (1) Fuel/Oxidizer Manifold, which includes two Model Torque Motor Latch Valves
- (1) Type 55 Antenna Pointing Mechanism (APM) manufactured by Moog Chatsworth Operations
