Article - Moog Offers Advanced Blade Pitch Control Technology For Wind Turbines
Moog Industrial Group, a division of Moog Inc. and a leader in providing blade pitch control, slip ring and rotor monitoring solutions for the wind energy industry, recently announced a strategic collaboration agreement with Sewind Co., Ltd. in China. Starting in January 2010, Moog Industrial Group will provide 400 electric pitch control systems for Sewind’s 2 MW wind turbines and variant models including on-shore and intertidal models. Ranked one of the top five companies in China’s wind energy industry, Sewind Co., Ltd. specializes in the design, manufacturing and sale of large wind turbines. It is a joint venture of the Shanghai Electric Group Co., Ltd. and China Huadian Engineering Co., Ltd.
“We are pleased to have Sewind as a major customer of Moog in China. Moog’s partnership with Sewind marks a milestone in our wind energy business. With worldwide emphasis on renewable energy sources and building a low carbon economy, wind turbine operators will be searching for solutions to increase wind turbine operation time. Moog’s high performance motion control solutions will benefit both local and international wind turbine manufacturers and wind turbine operators,” said Sean Gartland, Moog’s general manager for the Asia Pacific Region.
Blades pitch systems control motion in large mainstream wind turbine generator systems, ensure efficient use of wind energy and protect the wind turbine. Moog Wind Turbine Pitch Control Servo Drives used in those systems are designed to operate under extreme temperature conditions within switch cabinets in the wind turbine rotor hubs, guaranteeing reliable operation. Another key benefit is the ability to withstand extremely high mechanical loads in rotating turbines, while improving turbine operating efficiency.
