Moog Launches Optical Conversion Products Integrated Into A Connector-Based Solution For Military Communications

28 January 2011

Blacksburg, VA, USA – Moog Components Group, a division of Moog Inc., has announced the introduction of a new fiber optic converter and electrical multiplexer module integrated into a connector-based solution. This new solution utilizes a flexible, building block component approach to design a custom solution without the added cost.  Moog is leveraging its aviation and military fiber optic capabilities and experience in this latest solution.

The module provides 1.0 Gbps or 10 Gbps Ethernet optical to electrical conversion inside TFOCA-II® or Expanded Beam connectors.  A modular technology allows packaging of the fiber optic micro components inside the connectors.  It also provides for a simple upgrade path for fielded connector systems and expands bandwidth for future requirements.  The Ethernet transmission uses singlemode or multimode fiber.

Advantages include:
• Connector-based transmit and receive optical sub-assemblies
• Connector-based optical to electrical media converter
• Connector-based multiplexers
• Optical data transport rates up to 10 Gbps
• Optical to electrical conversion rates up to 10 Gbps

Moog Components Group and Amphenol Fiber Systems are working collaboratively to provide innovative tactical communication solutions.

TFOCA-II® is a registered trademark of Amphenol Fiber Systems International.
