Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B) Space and Defense Group provided integral hardware for the launch of Arianespace’s Ariane 5 ECA rocket and the two satellites it carried to space: MEASAT-3b and Optus 10. The satellites, manufactured respectively by Airbus Defence and Space and Space Systems/Loral (SSL), will be placed in Geo-Transfer Orbit (GTO).
The Ariane 5 ECA is an expendable launch vehicle used to deliver payloads to geostationary transfer and low earth orbits. The Vulcain main engine is equipped with six Moog structural supports: Actuator Steering Assembly Support, Oxygen Turbopump Support, Hydrogen Turbopump Support, Gas Generator Support, Electro-Valve Support Box, and Chamber Hydrogen Valve Support.
MEASAT-3b, produced by Airbus Defence and Space, is based on the highly-reliable Eurostar E3000 platform and will be operated by MEASAT to support video and data broadcast services for Malaysia, India, Indonesia and Australia. Positioned at 91.5 degrees East, MEASAT-3b will be co-located with the MEASAT-3 and MEASAT-3a satellites to form a robust Asian video neighborhood. Moog check valves, latching valves, and thruster valves control and regulate the flow of propellant to the engines allowing them to provide attitude, trajectory and orbit control. In addition, Moog supplies Antenna Pointing Actuators, which are vital mechanisms to point the satellite’s antennas and enable communications to the ground.
