H-60/S-70 Pitch Trim Endurance Upgrade Now Available Exclusively Through Moog
7 October 2015
Moog has recently been authorized to release to production its H-60/S-70 Pitch Trim Actuator with Endurance Upgrade, making it available to customers worldwide. Moog’s Endurance Upgrade was designed to enable the Pitch Trim Flight Control System to stay on-wing longer and provides better reliability in harsh environments such as salt water, humidity and sand.
Upgrades to the Pitch Trim Actuator include the addition of an HVOF-applied Tungsten Carbide coating to the booster piston, significantly enhancing wear protection against dust and sand. The design of the end cap has also been improved to eliminate the dust boot and external leak path to keep the Pitch Trim Actuator flying longer by significantly extending maintenance intervals and also decreasing unplanned removals due to external leakage. The redesigned mounting feet will minimize corrosion by better allowing the surface to shed moisture. In addition to being available on new production, Moog is also able to implement these improvements on all existing H-60/S-70 Pitch Trim configurations through an exclusive overhaul program.
Mary Chambers, Moog’s Director of Military Global Support-Army Sustainment, said: “These design improvements allow the flight control system to stay on-wing longer and ultimately address the Army’s sustainability cost challenges by extending time between maintenance cycles. Our estimates suggest these upgrades will provide customers a significant increase in Mean Time Between Unscheduled Removals (MTBUR), extending life on-wing from an average of 4 years to 6 or 7 years. Reducing piston rework, repair and seal replacement, as well as frame repair and replacement will also significantly reduce the customer’s depot maintenance costs.
The Pitch Trim Endurance Upgrade is now available exclusively through Moog. Please contact Mary Chambers at +1-256-722-8442 for more information.
