This sophisticated subsystem controls the position of the missile fins in response to steering commands from the flight computer. The typical FCAS consists of four actuators and associated control electronics, all integrated into a ring that matches the outer mold line of the missile. To add further value to our system offering, Moog also produces a single board computer, capable of processing all Guidance, Navigation and FCAS control through the convenience of a single device.

Miniature Air Launched Decoy (MALD)

Moog is entering production of the MALD fin control actuation system and wing deployment actuation assembly.  MALD is a low-cost, long range, expendable air launched vehicle that mimics the radar signature and flight characteristics of fighter aircraft and bombers to deceive a threat air defense system.  Moog's actuation solution leverages multiple programs with commonality to keep the system affordable.  The COTS based digital controller controls the three independent fin actuators and the wing deployment mechanism.  It is ruggedized to operate in the air launched environment intended, with high radar emissions.  The DC motor drive rotary actuators are simple and low cost, an take advantage of similar heritage designs.  Moog's system supports the decoy's aggressive affordability requirements while maintaining the highest standard of reliability and quality.
