Transitioning from Hydraulic to Electric Technology
For military and commercial aircraft, space launch vehicles, naval vessels, military ground vehicles, motion simulators, and an array of industrial machinery, Moog’s expertise in transitioning from hydraulic actuation to electric actuation is helping customers reduce life cycle cost while improving system reliability.
In the early 1980s, Moog recognized the benefits of electric actuation and invested heavily in developing this technology. Today, we have the capability to produce complete electric actuation systems and components for aerospace and industrial applications. These systems include power, actuation and control (electronics) elements. Given our experience with all types of actuation technologies (pneumatic, hydraulic, and electric), we often perform advanced trade studies to determine the optimal solution for our customers' applications.
Some of the advantages of Electric Actuation Systems include:
- Easy Checkout
- Excellent Long-Term Storability
- Easy Installation
- Low Maintenance
- Minimal Operations Cost
- Low Quiescent Power
- No Fluid Leakage
- No Concern for Fluid Contamination
- Lower Weight
- High Reliability
