Micro Hydraulics for Other Applications
Further to Formula 1, Moog is an established actuation supplier to other high end motor racing teams and formulae, including technically focused sports such as yacht racing.
In addition high performance car manufacturers can benefit from Moog's Formula 1 technology to deliver enhanced drive-train, chassis, braking, steering and advanced aerodynamic systems.
Other applications benefitting from micro hydaulics include those found in medical, downhole and robotics.
E024 Servo Valves

Developed from the proven EO30 Series aerospace servo valve, the E024 is widely used for control surface actuation in civil and military aircraft.
Available as standard with a linear flow gain characteristic or as high resolution dual gain version.
Ideal for motorsport applications where very high levels of power density are required, that can not be achieved with electrical actuation. These include: Selector drum positioning, clutch control, throttle control and torque control in limited slip differentials. Datasheet
E024 Servo Valve with Vented Motorcap for Subsea Systems

The E024-700 variant incorporates a vented motorcap to allow operation in high ambient pressure environments, meeting the needs of subsea applications in the oil and gas industry. Datasheet
E242 Cartridge Direct Drive Valve (DDV) Proportional Valves

The E242-200 Cartridge DDV Proportional Valve was developed especially to meet the demands of the rally car industry, but is now being used in a variety of other technically focussed sports including yacht racing, and by high peformance car manufacturers. With cartridge construction, it uses a robust linear electric motor to actuate the flow control spool. The maximum flow capability of 18 l/min (4.8 US g/min) is able to meet the requirements of the majority of motorsport applications.
The cartridge design permits compact packaging on applications where multiple valves are required to be mounted in a single manifold.
The Direct Drive design is extremely resistant to hydraulic contamination, allowing the valve to be used in challenging environments. Datasheet
E242-700 Cartridge Direct Drive Valve with Vented Motorcap for Subsea Systems

The E242-700 Series version features a vented Motorcap allowing the valve to be used in applications subjected to high ambient presures such as subsea devices where the valve is located in a pressure compensated chamber. Datasheet
E085 Actuator (Standard and Custom Versions)

Our range of sub-miniature actuators are optimized specifically for motorsport applications: Throttle Barrels, Inlet Trumpets, Turbocharger Waste-Gate, Turbocharger Inlet Guide Vane, Clutch, Gear Shift. Many of these designs incorporate a robust integral eddy-current position sensor along the external conditioning electronics,
This type of sensor, already widely applied in motorsport applications, was chosen because of its ability to withstand high temperature and vibration levels.
Actuators can also be supplied without a transducer or with an external LVDT positon sensor if required.
In addition to Motorsport, these actuators are suitable for use in applications such as Compact Robotics and Oil and Gas – Down-hole Drilling. Datasheet
E243 - Linear Power Assisted Steering Valve

The Standard Linear E243 Power Assisted Steering Valve is designed specifically to meet the requirements of Formula 1. It occupies the smallest viable space envelope - 41 mm (1.62 in) long and a mass of 27.5 g (0.97 oz). Despite the small package size, it is able to control hydraulic flow rates up to 15 l/min (4 USG) and pressures up to 280 bar (4061 psi).
Under new F1 regulations for 2014, it may be possible to use this valve in conjunction with a Moog E024 series valve to achieve electronically variable steering assistance levels. Datasheet
E081 Integrated Motorsport Systems

We have the capability to design, manufacturer and deliver complete motorsport motion control systems, utilizing either hydraulic or electrical actuation technology.
Working together with the customer, to evolve a detailed specification we can assist with the detailed design and supply a complete package. Typically, these systems are fully tested at Moog in conjunction with the customer’s ancillary hardware, before delivery, enabling accelerated development.
Brushed and Brushless Motors

Moog offer a comprehensive range of high speed, low inertia miniature brushed and brushless motors. These products were originally developed for the space and defense industry, and are particularly suited to the harsh requirements of motorsport applications. Typical applications include front and rear wing actuation and fuel pump drive.
Precision Ball Screws

Moog can provide a wide range of customized precision ball and roller screws for high performance applications. These are used in applications which require accurate positioning, with the ability to generate high loads and acceleration. This technology has been successfully applied to inertial damper (J-damper) applications in the Motorsport industry.
E050 Series Servo Valve

This range of valves is a development of the well established 30 Series Aerospace servovalve. The motorsport version has a higher temperature capability, performing to specification at temperatures at 165° (329 °F). It also has improved environmental sealing using precision o-ring seals to protect the pilot stage. These valves have been widely adopted by the rally car industry, which requires long service life in difficult environments.
