Small Launch Orbital Maneuvering Vehicle
The Moog Small Launch Orbital Maneuvering Vehicle (SL-OMV) is a propulsive tug for secondary payload deployment focused on Venture Class Launch Vehicles (VCLV). The SL-OMV is designed to launch on VCLV with a capacity of 150 kg or greater including spaceportbased systems. It is payload configurable for CubeSats through ESPA-Class spacecraft. It can be used to disperse CubeSats constellations or deliver ESPA-Class spacecraft to their ideal orbit. The SL-OMV has its own avionics, power, green propulsion, and communications systems that are configurable for short duration missions.
Why SL-OMV

Change Altitude
Increase or Decrease Altitude multiple times if needed. Ideal for Commercial Rideshare Brokers and Multi-Mission Manifest offices

Change Inclination
Increase or Decrease Inclination several degrees either separately or in conjunction with altitude changes (e.g. SSO). Ideal for Commercial Rideshare Brokers and Multi-Mission Manifest offices

In-Plane Phasing
Rapidly deploy a constellation around an orbit (e.g. “String of Pearls”) in a week or less. Ideal for constellations and limited propulsion capability payloads

Multi-Plane Deployment
Deploy an entire constellation on a single launch. Multiple SL-OMVs are used to each deploy up to 3 individual planes. Ideal for constellations of CubeSats

Liquid Insertion Stage
“Smart Upper Stage” or Tug that can be used to extend the range of a launch vehicle

On-Orbit Loiter, Hosted Payload
Remain on-orbit for an extended duration including immediate call up missions, technology demonstration missions (up to 1 year) when SL-OMV completes its primary tug mission

What's Next for the SL-OMV

FEATURES
- Leverages several of the subsystems from SL-OMV but additional capabilities for hosted payloads
- Deployable solar array allows for increased payload power
- Nadir pointing solution
- High Data Rate option
- 1 year life (in LEO)
Mk III
Chemical Transfer Stage
FEATURES
- High Delta-V capability allowing for transfers from LEO to higher orbits
- High thrust Bipropellant Chemical Propulsion so rapid transfers
- Suited for 300 kg + class launch vehicles
Mk IV
Electric Propulsion Transfer Stage
FEATURES
- High Delta-V capability allowing for transfers from LEO to higher orbits such as GEO or beyond
- High efficiency electric propulsion system
- High power that can be used for hosted payloads once orbit transfer is complete
