MURPHY, N.C. - January 31, 2024 – Moog is pleased to announce the launch of its new HD (High Dynamic) brushless servo motor series. Moog servo motors are known for their exceptional features like dynamic capability, power range, and customizable design. The new HD series has been developed by improving on already consolidated technologies by combining and enhancing these strong features into a single motor line with exceptional power density and extreme reliability.
Wide variety of sizes available
The new HD motors are available in a wide variety of sizes, with nominal torque from 2 Nm (26 lbf in) to 996 Nm (8815 lbf in) and peak torques from 11 Nm (97 lbf in) to 2,089 Nm (18,489 lbf in). This wide torque range, combined with an excellent dynamic response, three different cooling options, and extensive customization flexibility, ensures unprecedented freedom in selecting the ideal servo motor for any type of application, especially where a high dynamic response is required.
HD motors are particularly suitable for machines in continuous service with short, or non-existent, idling phases or when rapid change in speed is frequent.
According to Prashanth Bhatt, Moog Product Manager of servo motors, the intrinsic characteristics of its permanent magnet synchronous motors endow the HD series with an extraordinary power-to-mass ratio that greatly enhances the overall efficiency of the system.
"The HD motors can be equipped with multiple types of feedback devices to match the application," says Prashanth Bhatt, "The modular construction of the motor allows for extreme flexibility in customization, from special shafts and flanges to the incorporation of special windings to optimize the machine performance. The five installation sizes come as a standard with three possible cooling types: natural-cooling, fan-cooling, and liquid-cooling, further increasing the flexibility of our approach, as the right type of cooling can be selected to fit the requirements of any application.”
