East Aurora, N.Y. – June 11, 2021 – Collaboration between Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B), a designer and manufacturer of high-performance motion control products and solutions, and its global partners is helping customers ranging from Thule Group AB to Associated Spring improve and upgrade their test systems.
Thule Takes Testing to the Extreme
Recently, engineers from Moog teamed up with Sweden’s Anderstorp Hydraulik AB to understand that Malmö, Sweden-based Thule AB Group, the cargo carrier company, wanted to get more performance out of its Moog hydraulic simulation table system. Thule products are known for passing rigorous testing, including drop tests, shock and crash tests.
As Thule adjusted its system requirements including increasing oil pressure, an imbalance emerged in the system. While Thule could perform its ISO-standard test protocols, they ran into challenges when trying to conduct more demanding “Thule-standard” tests. After conducting interviews with Thule staff, the Anderstorp-Moog team of hydraulic experts repositioned the hydraulic pumps connected to the test rig and added a pressure-control valve. The changes lifted oil pressure from 190 bars to 210 bars, which accommodated faster and larger movements for simulating more rugged testing.
“We brought in a multidisciplinary team to solve the challenge and improve the test rig, so Thule could use it for the widest possible array of tests,” said Ian Weir, Moog’s business development manager in the Netherlands.
Test Software Enhancements
Corry, Pennsylvania-based Associated Spring, a global leader in the engineered spring and precision metal component manufacturing arena, began updating its PC network to Windows 10. Moog manufacturer's representative Performance Linear recommended an upgrade of the Moog test software used on test stands. Performance Linear bundled its services to include a Moog software maintenance agreement, on-site support and accredited test stand calibration. Michigan-based Servo Innovations (an authorized sales representative for Moog’s test and simulation tables) combined services to complete the calibration and software upgrades.
“Our Total Service Plan helped us simultaneously upgrade Associated Spring’s software and perform calibration,” said John Clawson, director of sales for Performance Linear. This approach assesses a customer’s equipment and offers one vendor for any test-related need, giving companies access to new Moog equipment when they have obsolescent controllers or other older hardware on their load frames.
“Customers always need calibration, repairs, software updates and equipment,” said Troy Diller, chief executive of Servo Innovations. “Bundling these with our expertise delivers a full package.”
Moog also offers a trade-in program for lab managers to upgrade any make of test controller they own. When a test lab contacts Moog and turns in its test controller for recycling, the lab manager receives instant credit to buy a new Moog Test Controller and Integrated Test Suite software.
