Moog Optical Sub Assemblies (OSAs) are a critical optical component in any transceiver, used to transfer between electrical and optical signals. Moog TOSA and ROSA components operate from 1–10Gbps and are fully controlled, from design to integration, by Moog with an approved dual-source vendor list for all raw materials and sub-assemblies.

Essential™

The Essential™ is a one or two-channel electrically pluggable rugged optical transceiver capable of duplex, dual transmitter, dual receiver, or bi-directional configurations. This component supports data rates from 1-28 Gbps with compliance to IEEE Ethernet, Fibre Channel, Infiniband, sFPDP, XAUI, FC-AV/ARINC 818, more. It features an industry standard ARINC 801 optical interface for rugged connectivity. The Essential™ is electrically pluggable to a wave solderable connector with screws for high shock/vibe environments.

Rugged Chip Scale Pluggable Optical Transceiver

The Rugged Chip Scale Pluggable (RCP™) optical transceiver is a four channel, electrically pluggable module with offerings at 1-5 Gbps and 6-10 Gbps as a quad transmitter, quad receiver, or dual-duplex device. Each channel has an ARINC 801 fiber optic interface for a secure connection, with an internal fiber tray ensuring alignment between the optics in the module and the fiber optic interface. The electrical interface is a low-profile gasket sealed gold-plated two-part connector. Two screws secure the module to the PCB which, along with metal feet on the housing, creates a rugged and level attachment. An addressable I2C bus allows for digital diagnostic reporting. The RCP is an ARINC 818 compliant rugged transceiver.

LAC

The LAC is an active cable designed for use inside of a LRU (Line Replaceable Unit). It features a separable optical interface for the fiber cable, a compact package for the laser or receiver, and flexible copper cable for the PCB.

The fiber and copper cables can be made to custom lengths and with available industry standard copper connectors, including pluggable.

SPOT-MB™ AND SPOT-CE™

A platform of parallel transceivers with 4Tx and 4Rx channels at 850nm SX/SR standard, SPOT-MB and SPOT-CE offer configurations operating at 1/10/40Gbps data rates. The electrical connector is a high-tolerance industry standard QSFP electrical connector. It mates with a 1-28Gbps surface mount receptacle enabling easy installation and direct upgrade to the 10/28Gbps version of SPOT-MB/SPOT-CE in development. The optical interfaces include the novel invention on SPOT-MB, the MT-R, and the novel invention on SPOT-CE, the MT-T.

Small Form Factor and Bi-Di Rugged Optical Transceivers

The Small Form Factor and Bi-Di (SFF/B) is a legacy standard form factor transceiver. The SFF/B comes in 2×5 and 2×7 pin configurations with diagnostic capabilities for the device. COTSWORKS offers both multimode and single mode SFF’s in standard duplex, dual transmit, and dual receive configurations.  SFB’s are available bi-directional single-channel configurations. SFF/B transceivers support 100Mbps-3Gbps in single mode, and 100Mbps to 4Gbps in multimode.

RJ Module Jack Rugged Optical Transceivers

COTSWORKS RJ Module Jack rugged optical transceivers can operate with LED, VCSEL, or FP lasers. Multimode or single mode cable networks will benefit from the miniature form factor and surface mount leads with screws to mid-or edge-mount the module to the board. A 1×10 or 1×12 pin header connects OEMs to an optional i2C bus for built-in-test functions for accuracy well beyond standards. The RJ optical transceiver accepts an industry-standard LC terminus or COTSWORKS’ LC to ARINC 801 adapter.

Rugged Pluggables

Moog offers a line of MSA compliant rugged pluggable optical transceivers.

Initial form factors include SFP, SFP+, QSFP, and QSFP28 for multimode cable operation and singlemode support in SFP/SFP+. The transceivers can be conformally coated for operation in salt/fog/high humidity environments, use high quality optical, electrical, and mechanical components, and the memory map in the transceiver is controlled by Moog.

The DSUB Family of products can operate with LED, VCSEL, or FP lasers. The industry standard DSUB footprint can be used as a box interface to support your fiber connections.

Configurable Optical Sub-Assemblies

Moog can design and create unique optical sub-assemblies in our Fiber Optic Research Center of Excellence, using in-house optical design and TO-level prototyping. From complex designs of TO cans, custom Ultem or metal caps, and Kovar butterfly packages for hermetic packages to the use of light sources such as VCSELs, Fabry Perot, DFB lasers or LEDs and receivers of a variety of communication and sensing diodes, Moog can build configurable optical sub assemblies, based on the scope of your needs.

TOSA

Transmitter Optical Sub-Assemblies

TOSAs are key components in Moog Transceivers. TOSAs convert electrical signals into optical signals then transmits it over optical fiber.

Each TOSA consists of laser diode, optional monitor diode, electrical leads into a hermetically sealed TO can with a glass window, a barrel with a lens,
and a fiber receptacle.

ROSA

Receiver Optical Sub-Assemblies

ROSAs are an essential component of a transceiver. ROSAs receive an optical signal transmitted by a TOSA, and convert the optical pulse to an electrical signal.

The Moog ROSA consists of PIN diode or APD, TIA, electrical leads in hermetically sealed TO can with a glass window, cap or “barrel” with a
lens that connects to the fiber ferrule.
