Moog Awarded Contract by the Naval Air Systems Command to Build and Deploy the Tarsier® Automatic Runway FOD Detection System

December 18, 2018

East Aurora, NY Moog Inc. (NYSE: MOG.A and MOG.B) has been awarded a research/development and evaluation contract led by the United States Navy, to build and deploy their Tarsier® Foreign Object Detection System for the United States Marine Corps. Moog’s Tarsier system will provide Foreign Object Debris (FOD) detection, resulting in reduced engine repair costs from ingested FOD, and improved operational readiness and flight safety.

“The increasing criticality of detecting FOD has prompted many military bases to rethink standard human inspection methods and seek a system that provides higher reliability, enhances combat readiness and dramatically reduces engine damage costs. Moog is proud to partner with the USMC and provide that next-level FOD detection through the Tarsier system,” said John R. Willey, General Manager of Moog Aircraft Group’s Navigation and Surveillance business.

Work began in November at the United States Marine Corps Air Station, Yuma, Arizona, under the NAVAIR/USMC contract which covers fabrication, testing, certification, data delivery and verification support services. The contract also includes an option for an installation at MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina.
