New Generation Moog Electrohydrostatic Actuation System Launched at SPS IPC Drives Italia 2017

Moog’s new generation Electrohydrostatic Actuation System (EAS) is an innovative new alternative for motion control that will be displayed at its booth (B026 in Pavillon 5) at the SPS IPC Drives Italia, held from May 23 to 25 at the Fiere di Parma Fairground. Moog Inc. is a leader in the supply of high performance motion control products, solutions and services for machinery in industrial markets.

EAS is an innovative new approach to machine motion control because it combines the benefits of both electromechanical and electrohydraulic actuation technologies. The system is sometimes referred to as power-by-wire and it offers the energy efficiency and low noise commonly found in electromechanical actuation and robust and reliable control ideal for high forces that is provided with electrohydraulic actuation. As a decentralized motion control system, the EAS eliminates the need for a hydraulic power unit (HPU) and complex piping providing a smaller overall machine input and reducing the total cost of ownership.

The EAS has been developed to meet the needs of OEMs, system integrators and end-users, who seek cleaner and more energy efficient machines, easier installation and commissioning, smooth integration with existing systems and cost-effective maintenance. The new EAS can be used for a wide range of machinery in industries such as metal-forming, heavy industry, injection molding and die-casting, gas and steam turbines and wind turbine pitch control.

Moog will demonstrate the advantages of a technology- neutral approach which means it can recommend electric, hydraulic and hybrid technologies to meet customers’ needs. Moog will also have solutions in all three technologies displayed in the booth. The displays will highlight the distinctive advantages of Moog’s Total Motion Control Solution including greater machine efficiency, productivity, safety and flexibility as well as reduction of operating costs and energy consumption. Moog is known for tailoring products to meet specific customer requests for a wide range of markets.

The Electromechanical Linear Actuators (EMA) will be also showcased at the booth. Designed with Moog’s permanent magnet synchronous servo motors and ball screws and planetary roller screws, these products are matched with Moog Servo Drives to ensure optimized machine performance. The main advantages of these actuators include: High precision for more accurate control of movements, low inertia to obtain superior acceleration, and reduced noise when compared to traditional hydraulic systems.

Moog will also introduce a decentralized electromechanical solution, the DI2020 and DR2020 Servo motors with on-board electronics and decentralized servo drives. These products complete the range of the compact DS2020 and DM2020, single and multi-axis servo drives. On display are also the new sizes of the Fastact H Series servomotors which are designed for applications where the output of intermediate torque values is preferred to peak values.

Gabriella Poletti general manager of Moog Italiana s.r.l says “SPS IPC Drives Italia 2017 is a strategically important networking platform, and an opportunity to present our complete offering, which ranges from advanced solutions for the production of cutting-edge machinery to world class products to responsive services. Cooperation between Moog and the Customer is increasingly based on specialised expertise and creating motion control systems designed to meet the customers’ unique requirements.” Poletti continued, “Today, Moog’s total solutions offer added value by ensuring maximum performance levels and a high return on investment of production systems”
