Moog at the SPS 2019: Smart Customized Solutions for Complex Motion

5 September 2019

Moog Industrial Group, a division of Moog Inc., (NYSE: MOG.A and MOB.B) today announces its participation in the SPS Nurnberg trade fair (Hall 3, Booth 338), from the 26th to the 28th November 2019. The Company will exhibit the latest developments in electromechanical motion control and will give visitors the opportunity to discuss their future projects with its expert engineers at the booth.

The Company’s electromechanical offering that will be showcased at SPS includes highly customizable servomotors and electronics, electrohydraulic, as well as linear motion and large rotating machine technologies.

Moog adopts a technology neutral approach to motion control to keep its customer’s needs always front and center. All their requirements are met employing flexible, adaptable solutions and developing a close collaborative relationship with each customer’s engineering department.

Among the innovations to note is the introduction of the new, compact ISA1 drive, for intelligent sliding systems, ideal for use in building automation.  In addition, the upgraded CombitronicTM communication protocol that integrates seamlessly in SmartMotorTM network motors with powers of 800W and above, via the new Moog DS2020 CombitronicTM drive.

The DS2020 is just one example of the flexibility permitted by Moog’s drives, which the visitors will see at the show. The DM2020 multi-axis servo drive, for instance, with its modular platform and advanced control software, opens the door for machine designers to  all the advantages of a decentralized architecture, thanks to the seamless incorporation of Moog’s own DI2020 motor-integrated and the DR2020 near-axis drives into the same system.

Visitors will also see the newest developments in Linear Motion technology, represented at the booth by Moog linear motors and screws. While Moog flat linear motors include various series of motors with different characteristics (higher IP rating, non-ferric components, etc.), all have in common their extreme ease of installation and customization.

In the same way, Moog ball and roller screws, regular and inverted, are designed and built to fit all customer requirements. The sealed design of the inverted roller screws, for example, makes them ideal for harsh or hazardous environments or where contamination risks are an issue. Their robust, high precision threaded mechanism, delivers also a much greater load factor, as demonstrated by the new MGI633 actuator with integrated inverted roller screw that Moog will present at the show, providing, where needed, an alternative to classic hydraulic drive solutions.

Another technological alternative to conventional systems, the new Electrohydrostatic Pump Unit (EPU) as a core product, and the Electrohydrostatic Actuation System (EAS) as a full solution, is the key focus of the Moog hybrid technology offering that will be also displayed at Nurnberg. Electrohydrostatic drives are one of the most energy efficient choices available for applications, where both large forces and fail-safe options, are needed, for instance on metal forming and press machinery and heavy industry, injection molding, steam and gas turbine applications.

At SPS Moog will also present its newly expanded range of large rotating machines and motors. Among these, the High Torque Motor, a new primary motion system for servo control from 139 kW to 1 MW, includes servomotors, servo drives, machine controllers, energy management systems, power supplies and software, and has been developed to provide high machine productivity for demanding industrial applications.
